The HSRI is seeking a Director to promote the Institute as a world-class center of excellence on biomedical/health sciences research and provide leadership for HSRI-related research.
Position Description
The Director will be responsible for developing and driving the Institute's goals, identifying new sources of extramural funding, forging new collaborations, protecting the Institute's intellectual properties and rapidly translating the HSRI’s scientific discoveries into the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
The Director will play a pivotal role in providing leadership to multidisciplinary projects involving HSRI investigators and their collaboration with off-campus research groups. The Director also will have the opportunity to recruit a cohort of junior and senior faculty to help make the Institute a world leader in biomedical/health sciences research.
The Director will report to the Vice Chancellor for Research, who is identifying a focused set of research areas from which the Director and founding faculty would be recruited.
To assist, UCR has launched a seminar series in which distinguished health scientists and leaders in the field of medical education give presentations in areas of research that the HSRI could focus on initially.
A search committee comprised of nine UCR faculty members was established in March 2006 to secure a Director. Michael Pirrung, UC Presidential Chair and a professor of chemistry, is chairing the committee.
